Congress, BJP, TRS stay away from TDP all-party meet

Correspondent

It deliberates on ‘irregularities and lapses’ in the construction of KLI scheme

CPI and CPI(M) leaders attend the meeting

Another meeting on the issue in Hyderabad on Sept. 12

MAHABUBNAGAR: Congress, BJP, and TRS party district heads, MLAs and MPs distanced themselves away from the all-party meeting called by TDP deputy floor leader and Nagarkurnool MLA N. Janardhan Reddy on Thursdy at Nagarkurnool.

The CPI and CPI(M) leaders who attended the meeting highlighted several alleged irregularities and lapses that took place in the construction of the prestigious Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme (KLI) in the district.

TDP district president P. Ramulu, CPM district secretary Kille Gopal and CPI district secretary Eerla Narsimma attended the meeting.

No change in structures

The main allegation of the leaders who attended the meeting was that though Kalwakurthy lift irrigation was extended to provide irrigation to 3.5 lakh acres from the original 2.5 lakh acres, the size of structures have not been changed. The Opposition leaders observed that while the tunnels at Aliminati Madhava Reddy (AMR) project in Nalgonda district were of 9.3 diameters to discharge 4,000 cusecs of water, for KLI only 7-diameter tunnels were being constructed to discharge 5,000 cusecs of water.

‘Bowing to pressures’

The Opposition meeting alleged that contrary to the decision of the high-power expert committee to erect motors and pumps made by BHEL in second lift of the KLI scheme, the Government, bowing to the pressures from contractors, has decided to erect pumps manufactured by M/S Andring of Austria and motors of M/S ABB company of Finland.

The leaders decided to hold another meeting in Hyderabad on September 12 with all-party floor leaders to chalk out agitational programmes to bring pressure on the Government to rectify all the ‘irregularities’ that took place in the construction of KLI scheme in the district.
