HYDERABAD: The housing programme Rajiv Swagruha, aimed at providing affordable independent houses/flats to the middle-income group, got a fillip with the State Government identifying more than 9,000 acres out of the 10,000 acres required to implement the scheme. AP Rajiv Swagruha Corporation Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), has been incorporated to implement the programme for which 1.76 lakh people have applied. In the municipal corporations, Hyderabad accounts for the highest number (38,114) of applications followed by Visakhapatnam (11,280), Vijayawada (4,269), Warangal (2,257), Guntur (1,958) and Tirupati (1,344). Among the municipalities, Bheemunipatnam received 12,356 applications followed by Mangalagiri (6,826) and Vizianagaram (4,368). A total of 7,645 acres was required to construct houses in the 94 municipalities which received more than 100 applications. In Greater Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Warangal and Tirupati municipal corporations, where 60,000 applications were received under four categories, flats would be constructed on an area of 860 acres. Transfer of land
An empowered committee comprising officials cleared the identified land and the same would be transferred to the SPV soon. Assessment revealed that there was abnormal demand for individual houses in Mangalagiri, Tenali, Bheemunipatnam, Anakapalli, Tanuku, Bhimavaram and Sangareddy. “As sufficient land was not available, flats will be constructed in these places,” a senior official said here on Thursday. Officials are facing problem in securing Government as well as private lands in Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari and Krishna districts. Utmost care was taken to see that the cost of the land was not very high, while acquiring private lands. “If the rates are high, the purpose of providing affordable houses at attractive rates will be defeated,” the official noted. The Government is keen to ensure that the beneficiaries get loans at interest rates cheaper by 1 to 1.5 per cent than the existing market price. In case of lower-income range, flexible equated monthly instalment is planned.
