Schools challenge Government Order

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Eighteen educational institutions, including an association of unaided schools, on Thursday petitioned the Karnataka High Court against a Government Order proposing to make it mandatory for all educational institutions to pay basic salary to teachers on a par with the basic salary drawn by Government teachers. The Associated Managements of Government Recognised and Unaided English Medium Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka and 17 others schools have opposed the Government move, saying that the proposal would affect them.

They contended that the GO has been issued only with the intention of enforcing Rule 3 (6) of the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Certain terms and certain Conditions of Service of Employees in Private Unaided Primary, Secondary and Pre-University Educational Institutions), Rules 2005.

The Additional Government Advocate, B. Manohar, submitted that the Government Order was issued only with the intention of ensuring that the teachers were not paid less. Justice B.S. Patil admitted the petition and adjourned further hearing on the case.

Allowed

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday heard an appeal by the State Government and allowed the redemption of land belonging to Bellary Spinning Mill in Bellary.
