‘White Paper not necessary’

Staff Correspondent

Siddaramaiah’s charge refuted

‘Government has taken approvals

for projects’

‘Appointment of Merajuddin not to woo minorities’

Chitradurga: The Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has categorically stated that the question of issuing White Papers on development works undertaken by the coalition Government, does not arise.

Refuting the charges levelled by Congress leader Siddaramaiah that the State Government did not take financial approval before laying foundation stones for the development works, the Chief Minister said that before implementing the works, the Government had obtained necessary administrative and financial approval. “He must have referred to his style of work, during his period where he might not have obtained the approval, but not the present coalition Government,” he said.

Asked whether the appointment of Merajuddin Patel as State president was to appease the minorities, following the Chief Minister’s recent statement in Gulbarga that the Janata Dal (Secular) had lost the faith of minorities after joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that both issues have no relation. Mr. Patel had been made State president to give due place to a senior leader in the party.

“The party has initiated several welfare programmes for minorities, thus the appointment of Mr. Patel should not be treated as an effort to woo the minority community,” he said.

Referring to the Vidarbha package, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the Centre had released only Rs. 66 crore of the over Rs. 2,000-crore package. Under the package, Rs. 1,750 crore was reserved for irrigation projects.

The State Government had proposed around 17 irrigation projects to the Centre, but owing to legal disputes, the Union Government had not approved those projects.

When asked the purpose behind Minister for Public Works Department H.D. Revanna meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, the Chief Minister said:

“Since Mr. Yediyurappa holds the financial portfolio, Mr. Revanna must have visited him for some development works,” he said.
