A preface in Urdu

At a function organised by the Tamil Nadu State Urdu Academy, State Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudy took the audience by surprise.

He prefaced his speech by speaking a few words in Urdu much to the delight of the students and others present. The Minister gave away cash prizes and scholarships to meritorious Urdu students. According to Ashfaqur Rahman, the academy Secretary/Registrar, what Mr. Ponmudy said in Urdu was “I am glad you have all come for the function.”
