Official takes stock of works in progress

TIRUCHI: The Secretary, Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Department, and District Monitoring Officer S. Machendranathan, reviewed the implementation of development work and welfare schemes here on Thursday.

The implementation of free two-acre land scheme, supply of rice at Rs.2 a kg, distribution of free television sets, gas stoves, execution of underground drainage scheme and other schemes were reviewed at a meeting chaired by him earlier in the day.

Later, Mr. Machendranathan, accompanied by Collector Ashish Vachhani, inspected the progress of work under various schemes in the district. He visited the Samathuvapuram at Navalpattu near Tiruverambur and enquired with the residents about the facilities there. He also interacted with members of self-help group functioning at Samathuvapuram.

He also visited Tirupattoor and Edumalai to inspect some of the development work taken up in the land distributed under free two- acre land scheme.

He inspected horticulture crops raised and suggested that beneficiaries be encouraged to raise other inter-crops for optimising returns. He also inspected the progress of work on establishing a burial ground and a tank in the village under the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam.’
