NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man and his nine-month-old daughter were killed and his wife seriously injured when a chartered bus hit their motorcycle on the Nizamuddin bridge over the Yamuna here on Thursday. The bus driver, who vanished from the spot after abandoning the vehicle, has been arrested. According to the police, the accident took place around 1-30 p.m. when the speeding chartered bus, which ferries students of a school, hit the motorcycle near the traffic signal close to Ring Road. Gaurav Saxena, who was driving the motorcycle, fell on the road and came under the wheels of the bus. His 23-year-old wife Survi and their daughter Mannat, who was in her arms, were also thrown off the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. While Gaurav died on the spot, Survi and Mannat were rushed to hospital. Mannat later died in the hospital. Some passers-by tried to nab the bus driver, but he managed to escape. The accident led to a traffic jam on the bridge for over 30 minutes. Normal vehicular flow was restored only after the police arrived. Enquiries by the police revealed that Gaurav, a resident of GhaziabadSector 12, used to work with a Reid and Tailor showroom in Shipra Mall. The family was going to Gurgaon when the accident took place. The police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and arrested the bus driver, Rajender. In another accident reported around 12-15 p.m., 50-year-old Prasadi Lal was killed when his scooter rammed into a tempo when its driver Jeetpal suddenly jammed on the brakes on the ITO bridge. He was rushed to LNJP Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
