Hyderabad: The Government has constituted a three-member committee headed by M.A. Quddus, Additional Secretary, Minorities’ Welfare Department, to procure and install close circuit televisions (CCTv) in the Mecca Masjid. Other security apparatus like door frame metal detectors and hand held metal detectors will also be installed in a phased manner with technical assistance from the police. This was announced by Minister for Minorities’ Welfare, Mohd Ali Shabbir, after an inspection of the Mecca Masjid on Thursday. The committee will float short notice tenders and finalise the rates before commencement of Ramzan. Fifteen home guards will be deployed at the Mecca Masjid on a permanent basis and their salary will be paid by the Minorities’ Welfare Department. At present, the city police have installed CCTVs in the mosque. They will be replaced once the department acquires its own cameras. Electrical works
Mr. Shabbir, who went round the mosque, said electrical works costing Rs.11.70 lakh would be taken up and completed before commencement of Ramzan next week. This would include erection of acoustic enclosure, comprehensive maintenance and monthly servicing, power supply to minar lights, a new generator and submersible motor. Mr. Shabbir asked the HMWSSB to construct a sump for storing water and take up drainage works. He expressed concern at the vegetal growth in the mosque minarets and asked the Director, Archaeology and Museum, J. Kedareshwari, to get it cleared at the earliest. Officials pulled up
The Minister expressed surprise that the marble ‘taqt’ broken in the blast was not yet replaced. He pulled up officials for passing the buck and not installing a new taqt even three months after the blast. New taqt
He asked Hyderabad Collector R. V. Chandravadan to take steps to install a new taqt. If necessary it should be brought from Rajasthan. Mr. Sahbbir said an advertisement for construction of the taqt would be issued in the newspapers. MIM legislators -- Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri -- were present.
