Back in warmth of his mother’s arms

Bundle of joy: Rohit with Lalasa.

KHAMMAM: After a day-long ordeal, little Rohit was restored to his parents by the Khammam police thus making a happy reunion with his family around 1.20 p.m. on Thursday.

Lalasa, his mother, the first to arrive at the Police Guesthouse here was overjoyed to find him safe in the care of the police. A doctor from a local children’s hospital and two nurses monitored the health of the boy who appeared weary and sleepy till he was back in the lap of his mother.

She brushed away tears and sat quietly for a while in front of her son before taking him gently into her arms. Apparently happy to find his people around, the boy clung to his mother. His father Ravindra Reddy reached the place a little later in another vehicle with his colleagues and friends.

He was also in tears as he saw the boy sleeping in his mother’s lap.

He kissed him profusely thus comforting and reassuring him that nothing has changed for him. “Words are insufficient to express our feelings. It is a kind of new life for our boy who was saved from a near tragedy,” he said.

Ravindra Reddy said he neither had the time nor the heart to call someone whose child was kidnapped and share his agony.

“But I received some 60 calls from people who were not known to me. Some called even from the U.S. and the Middle East enquiring about my son and extended moral support.”

He thanked the engineering student V. Ravinder who received the child abandoned by the kidnappers and a cable operator Venu who had identified him as Rohit. “They are our real heroes… we never expected we would be able to get our son back so soon.”

“We owe these joyous moments equally to the police, particularly the Inspector of Tekulapalli, Janardhan”. He was first one to confirm that the boy was Rohit.
