Kumaraswamy to convince Gowda

BANGALORE: Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that he will convince the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on the need to transfer power to the Bharatiya Janata Party next month.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that the coalition government would complete its full term. The Congress leaders had been spreading rumours on transfer of power to destabilise the Government led by him. The Janata Dal (Secular) would transfer power to the BJP according to the pact reached between two parties during the formation of the coalition government in February last, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.

He declined to comment on the rumour that his party would transfer power to the BJP in the third week of September.

Hitting out at the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Congress leader had launched a malicious campaign against him to gain support for the Congress in the elections to urban local bodies. He became Chief Minister on his own efforts, Mr. Kumaraswamy claimed.

Mr. Siddaramaiah had not campaigned in the Ramanagaram constituency when he was in the Janata Dal (Secular). The Government had launched works worth Rs. 3,000 crore in various districts.

The Congress leaders, however, criticised them on the grounds that they had been launched with an eye on the elections to urban local bodies to be held on September 28.
