TASHKENT: Tara Iyer stormed into the women’s semifinals with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Ling Zhang of Hong Kong in the $100,000 Asian tennis championship here on Thursday.
Tara will meet fifth-seeded Xin-Yun Han of China in the semifinals.
In doubles, however, Tara and Rushmi Chakravarthi went down fighting to top-seeded Chin-Wei Chan and I-Hsuan Hwang.
The Taipei pair prevailed 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 in a thriller.
There was more good news for the Indian camp, as second-seeded Ashutosh Singh and Vivek Shokeen reached the doubles final with a 7-6(1), 6-3 triumph over the fourth-seeded Hsin-Han Lee and Tsung-Hua Yang of Chinese Taipei.
