Monster on wheels: A Suzuki Hayabusa bike kept on display at the showroom of a two-wheeler dealer in Thiruvananthapuram.

It is big, it is beautiful and it has power written all over it. Two- wheeler buffs are flocking to have a view of the Suzuki Hayabusa super-bike kept on display at the showroom of the company at Karamana here.

Ever since the blue Hayabusa arrived two weeks ago, the showroom has had a steady stream of visitors, mostly school and college students.

“The response has been overwhelming. Our staff is struggling to handle the number of visitors. Every day, the showroom is crowded from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. when the teenagers drop in for a glance. They simply stand ogling at the machine, enthralled by its beauty. The youngsters are well informed about the model and they have also seen it in the popular film Dhoom,” says Praveen, marketing manager, Essco Motors.

The monster motorbike is a 2005 model sporting a massive 1,300-cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine to catapult the rider to blurring speed. Unlike the other motorbikes sold by the company in India, the Hayabusa features the latest digital fuel-injection technology and catalyser to handle emission. The mean machine is equipped with disc brakes to bridle the awesome power.

But all the technology and power comes at a heavy price. The Hayabusa costs Rs. 14 lakh.

Mr. Praveen said the company would accept bookings for the super-bike. “On cash down payment, the vehicle will be shipped to the customer within 25 days. Our workshop is equipped to service the Hayabusa and spare parts will be made available if sales materialise.” The 2007 model of the Hayabusa sports a 1,800-cc engine and features more advanced technology.
