SALEM: Members of Jananayaga Munnetra Kazhagam staged a demonstration in front of the Salem Corporation on Thursday in protest against the civic body’s decision to increase the water charges and deposit for the domestic connections. They said that a large number of poor people would be affected due to the increase in water charges. They urged the Corporation to withdraw its decision. Arrested
The police arrested two persons on charges of selling illicit liquor in Thevur near Sankagiri on Wednesday. The police said a team conducted raids on various places. They arrested Rathinam (47) and Kandasamy (48), who were found selling liquor. A case was registered. Jewellery stolen
A few unidentified persons had stolen jewellery worth Rs. 50,000 from a house at Puthuchampalli in Mettur on Tuesday night. The Police said Gopal (30) and his family members returned home on Wednesday after visiting their relatives and found the doors of their house broke open. They found the jewellery missing and registered a complaint with the Karumalaikoodal Police. A case was registered.
