Sand lorry-owners warned against flouting norms

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: Sand lorry-owners and drivers were once again warned by the district administration that the Goondas Act would be invoked against them if they continued to violate the norms laid down by the State Government.

A release, issued here on Thursday, said a surprise inspection, made by Collector Pradeep Yadav and Superintendent of Police A. Amalraj, had revealed that sand was being quarried from unauthorised sites on the Palar riverbank near the Kaalur quarry.

The lorry drivers were found to have formed additional routes to reach the quarry from different directions, even though the district administration had already directed Public Works Department officials not to encourage such activities.

The Collector warned that stern action would be initiated against the lorry drivers indulging in ‘malpractices.’

Steps would also be initiated to cancel the driving licence and vehicle permit of the ‘erring’ drivers.
