TIRUNELVELI: Thirty students of Government Higher Secondary School, Reddiyarpatti, near here had hands-on experience of preparing several chemical products in the laboratory of Government College of Engineering (GCE) here on Thursday.
The Department of Chemistry of GCE, under the ‘Service to Community’ programme, imparted training to these students with rural background.
They got trained in preparation of white phenyl, blue ink, soap oil, detergent cake, cleaning powder, detergent powder and liquid blue.
Since the students were provided with detailed procedure of preparing the chemical products in advance, learning the steps involved in making the products was a trouble-free affair.
More sessions planned
“We’ve planned to give similar vocational training to 30 more Plus One students from the same school on Friday (September 7),” said the Head, Department of Chemistry, K. Muthukumaran, who was assisted by faculty member Sophie Beulah and the Educational Assistant of District Science Centre, Maruthanayagam.
