Fill vacancies in schools, says teachers’ association

Special Correspondent

“Government must create additional posts”

PUDUKOTTAI: The Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary Graduate Teachers Association has urged the State Government to take steps to fill all existing vacancies in schools in the State immediately.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the association’s district executive committee meeting held here recently. The Government should also take the initiative to create additional posts, it said.

The meeting expressed support to the education protection conference convened by the School Teachers’ Federation of India (STFI) in New Delhi in October to demand maintaining the standard of education in the interest of the student community, increased allocation for education and allocation of the education cess in toto for education.

Signature campaign

The meeting decided to ensure the participation of a large number of association members at the conference. It also decided to extend total support for the success of a signature campaign to highlight the above demands.

By another resolution, the meeting urged the Delimitation Commission to restore the Pudukottai parliamentary constituency. The seat existed even before the carving out of a separate Pudukottai district, it said.

Office-bearers of the district unit, president T. Ramamoorthy presided over the meeting, while treasurer A. Selvendran, joint secretary R. Manavalan and vice-president R. Ganesan spoke at the meeting.
