NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Members of Parliament on Friday met the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and urged him to intervene in providing comprehensive protective legislation for the unorganised sector and agricultural workers. They urged the Prime Minister to ensure that the Bills were finalised andintroduced in the current session of Parliament itself. The delegation reminded him about the commitment made in the National Common Minimum Programme of the to enact protective legislation for all agricultural workers and workers in the unorganised sector. They drew Dr. Singh’s attention to the report of the National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) on the conditions of workers. They wanted the Prime Minister to pay heed the NCEUS recommendations on the comprehensive legislations on unorganised sector and agricultural workers. The delegation was led by Sitaram Yechury.
