Chennai: The construction of the slaughterhouse in Saidapet will be completed by January next year, Mayor M. Subramanian said here. He inspected the progress on the construction on Thursday. The slaughterhouse, which will comprise a waste water treatment plant, a sales outlet and five rooms, is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 34 lakh. At another function, Mr. Subramanian inaugurated a drinking water treatment facility funded by Lions Club at Corporation Higher Secondary School in Saidapet. The school would get 5,000 litres of treated water every day. The Lions Club organised a tuberculosis screening programme for students. Mr. Subramanian also inspected the construction of stormwater drains on the Kodambakkam-Rangarajapuram Railway Border Road. About 250 metres of drains would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 14 lakh.
