Missing girl found dead

Staff Reporter

Body found in irrigation tank in Dharmavaram

ANANTAPUR: The body of four-year-old girl, Kavyanjali, who was missing from her house since Wednesday evening, was found floating in the irrigation tank in Dharmavaram town in the district on Friday. Women who went to wash clothes found the body floating. According to the police, a CLUES team and dog squad was taken to the tank where the body was found to find leads in the suspicious death of the girl of Gandhinagar locality in the town. However, they did not find any lead so far. Meanwhile, police sources said that suspicion shrouds the incident as the girl’s parents did not inform or complain to the police till Thursday evening.

Besides, no phone call was received by the parents demanding ransom, if the girl was kidnapped. The suspicion points to the family itself at the moment, a police officer said. In the complaint lodged with the police on Thursday evening, the girl’s father, M. Jayaramudu, said that the girl went out the house to get candies from a nearby shop after he had given her Rs. 1 and did not return home.

But, the girl’s mother Laxmidevi told the police that she had believed that her daughter had gone out along with her husband. When her husband returned home later, the woman had asked Jayaramudu about the girl to which the latter had replied that the girl did not accompany him.

Interestingly, the girl was kidnapped seven months back too, when unidentified persons picked her up when she was playing alone in front of their house. The kidnappers had allegedly demanded Rs. 50,000 ransom for releasing the girl but when the parents expressed willingness to pay the ransom the girl was left in Narpala by the kidnappers. The parents did not lodge a complaint with the police then too.
