Literacy Day celebrated

VIZIANAGARAM: Zilla Parishad Chairperson B. Appala Naidu underlined the need to improve literacy rate, particularly among women, from the present 51 per cent in the district.

Participating as chief guest in the 41st International Literacy Day celebrations at Denkada village, near here, on Saturday, Mr. Naidu asked officials to evolve a plan different from the age-old practice to improve the rate of literacy. He said that literate DWCRA groups would be able to maintain accounts and also propogate government welfare schemes effectively.

Joint Collector M. Jagan Mohan also spoke.

P. Narayana Swamy, TDP MLA, presided.

Earlier, school children took out a rally in the village.
