OPTIMISTIC: Wilfried Aulbur, MD and CEO, DaimlerChrysler India, with the newly launched CL-Class Mercedes Benz in Kolkata on Saturday.
KOLKATA: DaimlerChrysler India is excited about the eastern region where it feels that the renewed economic activity under way, holds great potential for increased demand for the premium Mercedes Benz cars. Sensing a growing market, the company on Saturday held a brand showcase where it presented, for the first time in this region, its complete range of cars especially the CL-Class coupe. The market for luxury cars is led by the north followed by the west and the south. DaimlerChrysler India Managing Director, Wilfried Aulbur, said the strong sales growth seen in 2006 had continued in 2007, with a 22 per cent growth between January and August. A total of 1,681 vehicles were sold during this period against 2,100 vehicles in calendar 2006. The company has invested 50 million euro (about Rs. 250 crore) in setting up its own facility spread over 100 acres compared to the 20 acres rented facility that the company now has in Chikhali in Pune. The new plant, also in Pune, would have a capacity of 5,000 vehicles.
