Tara loses in final

TASHKENT: Home favourite Iroda Tulyaganova proved too hot for Tara Iyer as the former World No.16 cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the women’s final of the Asian tennis championship here on Saturday.

Thus, the 25-year-old Uzbek captured a wild card for the 2008 Australian Open. Tulyaganova faced only one break point, in the second game of the first set. She came out of troublewith one of her seven aces.

Meanwhile, it was a double delight for Uzbekistan as the top-seeded Denis Istomin won the men’s title beating Tatsuma Ito of Japan 6-2, 6-4.

Hence, Uzbekistan bagged both the Australian Open wild cards at stake.
