LRDE surprises CIL in super division

BANGALORE: LRDE stunned CIL with a goal either side of the interval in a Super Division football league tie here on Saturday.

In the 19th minute, CIL defender Kumar failed to clear the ball away from just outside the box, Sarvana (Jr) fired a left footer to the far corner catching N. Venkatesh in the CIL goal flat-footed.

In the 68th minute, the CIL custodian was red-carded for deliberately handling the ball outside the box to deny a scoring opportunity to LRDE’s Praveen. C. Pasha manned the goal thereafter. In the 84th minute LRDE put the issue beyond doubt with hardworking Naveen Moses bulging the net with a stiff grounder.

LRDE, with this win, has seven points from four games (two wins and a draw) while CIL stay on a solitary point also from four outings.

Earlier, Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) overwhelmed South Western Railway Institute (SWRI) 4-1 in an A Division league match.

Satish netted a brace for the winner in the 27th and 71st minutes of play while Naveen Babu (39th) and Sugandhar (55th) added to the tally. A. Muthu (72nd) reduced the margin for the SWRI side.

Satvik in lead

M. Satvik (5 pts) and T.C. Megana (4) led the under-9 boys’ and girls’ segments respectively at the conclusion of the fourth round of the State junior chess championship, in progress here on Saturday.

Hockey selection

The Karnataka State Women’s Hockey Association will conduct selections to pick the junior women’s team at the KSHA Stadium, Bangalore, from September 12. The team will play in the Nationals at Gwalior from Sept. 30 to Oct. 10. Players born on or after January 1, 1998, are eligible.

Fortis beats SAI

Fortis defeated SAI 4-2 in a Synergy Sports super division hockey league match at the KSHA Stadium here on Saturday evening.

Sanwar Ali, Damandeep Singh, Bharath and Chengappa scored for Fortis while Vineet Michael and Harish Ponnappa netted for SAI.
