Temple panel to stage protest march against encroachment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The advisory committee of the Major Thirupuram Sri Mahadevar temple near here is launching an agitation from Monday to highlight the encroachment of temple lands.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, committee members K.Gopalakrishnan Nair, M. Krishnan Nair and S.Anilkumar said that Police and Revenue officials were abetting the land grab attempt. “Defying orders issued by the District Collector, the police have turned a blind eye to the encroachment.” They alleged that the Neyyatinkara Deputy Superintendent of Police had tried to intimidate temple authorities for opposing the move. The committee is organising a protest march from the Neyyatinkara bus stand to the Deputy Superintendent of Police’s office on Monday.
