COLOMBO: At least 12 persons, including seven LTTE cadre and three soldiers were reported killed in clashes in the north in the last 24 hours. The Defence Ministry said the Army repulsed an LTTE attempt to infiltrate the Forward Defence Line (FDL) in Jaffna killing two Tiger cadres. A few more attempts were also thwarted by the troops in Vavuniya. The military alleged that two members of the Eelam Peoples’ Democratic Party (EPDP) were gunned down by the LTTE in in Jaffna and Mannar. The naval headquarters said it would establish two camps at Mullikulama and Silavattura within a couple of days. These areas in the Mannar district were captured by the military last week. The Navy said it would now be able to get more effective domination over the South of Mannar Sea. It said the navy would provide security to the fisher folk who had been “harassed” by the LTTE for years. The Navy would also help the civil administration. In another development, the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) announced that an international monitor would be located at its office in Jaffna on a permanent basis.
