KSEB clinches women’s title

KURIANOOR: KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram) edged out SAI (Thalassery) 61-58 in extra-time to win the women’s title in the 8th Maxtulin Champions Trophy basketball tournament at the St. Thomas Floodlit court here on Saturday.

SAI girls gave KSEB a run for its money and led 43-38 at the end of the third quarter. KSEB levelled the scores at 51 with less than two minutes left for play.

The scores were 53 all at end of regular time. KSEB won the extra-time 8-5 to take the title.

BSNL (Thiruvananthapuram) will meet Customs and Central Excise (Kochi) in the men’s final.

In the semifinal, BSNL defeated Mar Ivanios College (Thiruvananthapuram) 53-44 while Customs and Central Excise trounced KSEB 64-42.

The Kerala Sports Council president T.P. Dasan and Kozhikode Mayor M. Bhaskaran have promised all possible help for the Women’s Football Club, Calicut.

They were speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the club at the Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode on Saturday.

WFC thrashed

Women’s Football Club, Calicut, however, was thrashed by Malappuram Soccer Girls 0-3 in an exhibition match played after the inaugural function.
