CHENNAI: The winners of the Good Earth AITA Super Series National tennis tournament, the first leg of which was held in the city, had an informative session with Vijay Amritraj at a hotel here on Saturday. The girls’ under-14 champion Ankita Raina asked, how long should I practise in a day? “It’s not the time you spend on court, but the quality of time you put in,” Vijay replied. There were lots of other similar questions to which Vijay replied with his trademark smile. In an advisory capacity to the organisers, Good Earth, Vijay said he was excited to be in a position to help those involved in the project. “It’s a wonderful concept and a unique endeavour to promote grassroots tennis. It makes a huge difference,” Vijay said. He appreciated Good Earth for having taken the initiative of developing junior tennis. The biggest challenge for the kids, Vijay said, will be to maintain their enthusiasm. On Sania Mirza’s rise to her current World ranking of 27, Vijay said it’s been incredible. About his son Prakash, Vijay said he was recovering from the wrist injury on the left hand. He should be able to play in the 2008 ATP Chennai Open.
