Pondicherry University to celebrate Onam

PUDUCHERRY: These twelve men do know to make people dance. Alternating between beating their melams to reach a cresendo rather quickly and slowing down their pace, the Singarimela kaar from Irinjyalakuda will perform at the Pondicherry University’s ‘Shravana pulari 2007’ Onam celebrations on September 10.

According to Nalini Jeevan Thampi of the university’s French Department, a Singarimelam performance was organised on Saturday as well.

This is the second year that Singarimelam is being held at the university.

The Onam celebrations are being put together by the students from Kerala at the Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium in the Administrative Block inside the university campus.

Vice-Chancellor J.A.K. Tareen will preside over the celebrations, to include skits, dances and traditional performances.
