University to have senior professors too

MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) has revived the Senior Professor cadre to designate those professors who put in more than 10 years of service as senior professor.

A decision was taken by the Syndicate last week following a request placed before the varsity authorities by the Professors’ Association of MKU that was launched recently.

According to university officials, the Syndicate gave its nod to have senior professors’ cadre only to be implemented with certain conditions like years of service, publications in journals and guiding research scholars.

P.M. Ajmal Khan, vice-president of MKU Professors’ Association, said the varsity’s statute had a provision to elevate faculty members who had put in a minimum of 10 years of service as professors to the cadre of senior professors.

“The association’s request has been accepted by the Vice-Chancellor, P. Maruthamuthu, and the Syndicate.
