Traffic on the sector severely affected

YERCAUD: Heavy rain in the hill station caused many landslips on Salem-Yercaud Ghat Road on Sunday.

The hill station experienced heavy rain on Saturday night. This downpour lasted for nearly for four hours.

Consequently, there were many sudden water falls and streams that appeared owing to the steady downpour and carried mud, foliage and stones down on Ghat Road at many places along the route. The traffic on the sector was severely affected.

The Yercaud Lake also received copious water and overflowed. The traffic to villages such as Nagalur and Semmanatham also was affected. The district administration pressed men to remove the mud and clear the road for traffic. Salem city and its suburbs also had been experiencing moderate to heavy rain for the past three days.
