Autorickshaw driver charred to death

Destroyed: The mangled metal of the autorickshaw after the blast in Belgaum on Sunday.

Belgaum: A 60-year-old autorickshaw driver was charred to death following a blast in the vehicle near Green’s Hotel in Camp (cantonment) area under Camp Police Station limits here on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Gaffar Dastagir Kalledar of Shahunagar in the city.

The incident took place at about 3 a.m. People in the area woke up to the sound of the blast.

Police Inspector S.M. Nagaraj said he could not immediately ascertain the cause of the blast.

But, quoting owner of the autorickshaw Girish Killedar of Shettigalli, he said the vehicle was fitted with a domestic LPG cylinder.

Help sought

Help of forensic experts from Bangalore has been sought. They will arrive here on Monday.

A doctor from a forensic laboratory here visited the spot.

However, the police have registered a case of murder.
