Driver dies as lorry falls into pit

VILLUPURAM: Lorry driver A.Rajagopalan (42) of Nagerkoil died when the vehicle he was driving fell into a roadside pit at Chittanangur on Sunday. Cleaner Bhaskar who sustained injuries has been admitted to government hospital.

The police said the lorry carrying casuarina logs was on its way from Arasur to Ulundurpet. As the work on the construction of a four-lane road was in progress, the lorry slid down the narrow road into the gradient and turned turtle.

The driver who was caught beneath the lorry was killed on the spot.
