MADURAI: The issue of Union Government not permitting the Indian Red Cross Society to take relief material to Tamils living in Sri Lanka would be taken up with Union Finance Minister P. Chidamabaram, said P.N. Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and Member, United Nations Human Rights Commission. . When his attention was drawn to the issue, he told reporters that he would discuss it with the Union Finance Minister. P. Nedumaran, coordinator, Coordination Committee of Supporters of Freedom for Tamil Eelam, has accused the Centre of turning deaf ears to the repeated requests made by the IRCS and various political parties. The relief material worth Rs. 1 crore had begun to rot, Mr. Nedumaran claimed. Several organisations had collected the materials from people during the months of December 2006 and January 2007. Mr. Nedumaran had described the Government’s denial of permission as an “inhumane act.”
