NEW DELHI: Defending champion Union Academy trailed twice but rallied to make it to the semifinals beating I. P. School, Bhopal, 4-2 in the tie-breaker, in the 4th Oriental Insurance D. P. Joshi memorial school hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Sunday.

Surender had twice put Bhopal school ahead through penalty corner conversions, but Irfan Khan and Shyam Veer scored to keep Union Academy afloat.

In the ensuing tie-breaker though, Union Academy took flight as Innocent Kullu, Attar Mirza, Ashok Soni and Ashish Minj scored. But for the Bhopal school, only Surender and Imran managed the target.

In another quarterfinal match, Government School, Gurgaon, defeated Bal Bharti School 4-0 to make it to the last four stage. Kuldeep, Sunil, Ved Prakash and Pawan Malik were the scorers.
