HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad District Basketball Association will organise the 49th South Zone championship at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium (Yousufguda) here from September 11 to 15.

Men’s and women’s teams from four States will be seen in action in the round-robin format with the top two teams in each section vying for the title.

Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry have confirmed their participation, while the Tamil Nadu teams will not be participating as they have backed out stating security reasons.

Kerala is the defending champion in both sections.

National runner-up Karnataka is expected to give a tough fight to Kerala. Host, Andhra will field a relatively young side.

In the women’s section, Kerala and Karnataka will vie for the honours with Andhra fielding an inexperienced side as the Railway players have pulled out.

All the matches will commence at 2 p.m.
