Ethiraj, SRM dominate

Perundurai: Chennai colleges, SRM Engineering and Ethiraj, pocketed the volleyball titles for men and women respectively in the Kongu Trophy State-level inter-collegiate tournament here on Sunday.

SSN Engineering College (Chennai) also had a field day clinching both the men’s and women’s table tennis titles.

The results:

Volleyball: Men: Final: SRM Engineering (Chennai) bt Sathyabama EC (Chennai) 25-14, 19-25, 25-14. Third place: D.B. Jain (Chennai) bt PSG CAS (Coimbatore) 27-25, 25-21. Best player: John Christophe r (Sathyabama).

Table tennis: 1. SSN EC (Chennai), 2. Loyola College (Chennai), 3. SRM EC, 4. Kongu EC (Perundurai). Best player: K.I. Nishanth (Kongu EC).

Women: Volleyball: Final: Ethiraj (Chennai) bt SRM EC 25-22, 25-20. Third place: MOP Vaishna (Chennai) bt PKR Arts (Gobichettipalayam) 25-13, 25-13. Best player: K. Monisha (Ethiraj).

Table tennis: 1. SSN EC, 2. Ethiraj, 3. Kongu EC, 4. Sri Ramakrishna EC (Coimbatore). Best player: R. Santhiya (Ethiraj).

Badminton: Final: Ramakrishna EC (Coimbatore) bt Ethiraj 2-1. Third place: PSG CAS (Coimbatore) bt Kongu EC 2-0. Best player: R. Hamsica (PSG CAS).
Sivakumar scalps six

At Coimbatore, a fine spell by Sivakumar (six for nine) enabled SMS College of Arts and Science score a seven-wicket win over Kovai Kalaimagal CAS in a ‘B’ Zone match of the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate cricket tournament on Sunday.

The scores: Kovai Kalaimagal CAS 82 in 25 overs (Sivakumar six for nine) lost to SMS CAS 84 for three in 11.1 overs (Sathish Kumar 52 not out); Hindustan CAS 107 in 20 overs lost to Maharaja CAS 108 for two in 23.4 overs (Karthikeyan 5 1); Sri Jayendra 180 for eight in 25 overs bt RVS College (Sulur) 124 in 22.3 overs.
Easy for GSIS

At Udhagamandalam, Good Shepherd International School (GSIS) posted a 52-run win over St. Joseph’s Boys HSS (Ooty) in an under-19 inter-school match for the F.K. Irani Trophy on Sunday.

The scores: Good Shepherd IS 184 (S.M. Saifullah 52) bt R. Rajesh Kumar three for 15, A.K. Nelson Raj three for 29) bt St. Joseph’s 132 for nine in 35 overs (R. Ranjith 46, R. Amogh three for 21).
Holy Cross College makes merry

Holy Cross College defeated H.H. Rajah’s College 8-1 to win the women’s title at the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate handball tournament here on Sunday.

The results: Final: Holy Cross College bt H.H. Rajah’s College 8-1. Third place: AVVM Sri Pushpam College bt Arungaraiamman Arts and Science College 2-1.
