‘Sahasranada’ audiocassettes released

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Audiocassettes of ‘Sahasranada’, a contemporary experimentation of the traditional ‘Geeti Natya’ form of Orissa, have been released.

This ‘Geeti Natya’ was produced by the Ganashakti Prachar Manch of the city. ‘Sahasranada’ was already enacted on the stage in many parts of the State by artistes of the manch. Seeing its popularity, it was decided to release its audiocassette.

‘Geeti Natya’ is a lyrical play which adheres to basic norms of Natya Shastra of Bharata. Usually, mythological stories are told through this form. Baishnav Pani made Geeti Natyas part of Oriya theatre decades ago through his mythological enactments.

In contrast, ‘Sahasranada’ delves into contemporary people’s issues like SEZ, globalisation, displacement and exploitation in the name of industrialisation.

Biswanath Mohapatra wrote this experimental lyrical drama.

Music director Aswini Mohapatra said the it would interest rural public as well as people rooted to the cultural tradition of Orissa.
