MYSORE: “It is difficult to find even a single intellectual among right-wing forces. Similarly, it is not easy to find even a single collection of good poetry or a good novel from the right- wing stable. “The right wing failed in developing the thinking process that is pluralistic in nature,” writer U.R. Ananthamurthy has said. He was inaugurating a reading session organised by National Book Trust as part of its golden jubilee celebrations held in association with the Samanvaya Kala Sangha here on Sunday. There were many intellectuals among the Left-wing forces and there were fine literary works from them because of their unbridled thought process, he said. The Left wing’s thought process need not necessarily be the agenda of the Left party. It should help in protecting the pluralistic culture of society, he said. ‘Strengthen democracy’
Mr. Ananthamurthy underlined the need to strengthen the democratic system, which according to him is under threat from capitalistic forces. He called upon writers and intellectuals to speak the truth even if it was unpleasant. Writers should not be dishonest to be politically correct for they had social responsibility, he said. The NBT should not try to become politically correct while selecting publications. The Sahitya Academy should recognise good literature, he added.
