Action sought against the accused

HAVERI: Tension prevailed for a while here on Sunday when relatives of a restaurant worker, who died in hospital after being reportedly beaten up by a staff of the restaurant, staged a demonstration seeking action against the restaurant owner.

Beaten up

According to sources, Ramanna Sagar, who was working in a bar and restaurant in Haveri, was allegedly beaten up by Guddappa Kalakeri on September 2.

Subsequently, Ramanna was admitted to the KIMS Hospital in Hubli.

However, he died on Saturday.

The relatives, who brought the body of Ramanna to Haveri on Sunday, kept it in front of the Haveri town police station and sought action against the proprietor of the restaurant and Gudappa Kalakeri.

They refused to perform the last rites till the police initiated action against the restaurant owner and the accused.

They relented only when the police promised them that they would initiate action.
