Start train service

Sir, — Though the Mangalore-Hassan broad gauge conversion work is over, the Mangalore-Bangalore train services have not commenced. It has taken more than 10 years to complete this project at a cost of Rs. 312 crores. The train services are a requirement for people travelling from Mangalore to Bangalore as it is more convenient and comfortable. There have been several assurances from politicians and other authorities that the passenger train service will start soon but no action has been taken.Recently, Veerappa Moily said the train services would commence after the monsoon and Lalu Prasad assured the Mangalore delegates that he would take suitable action. It now remains to be seen whether their promises will be fulfilled or not.

Garbage disposal

Sir, — The irresponsible and unscientific disposal of garbage around R.V. Dental College, J.P. Nagar first phase is disconcerting. Those entrusted with garbage clearance are seen setting fire to coconut tree branches and waste paper around dustbins. Also, they dispose off garbage in drains, thereby clogging them. Despite continued pleas, no action has been taken in this regard.

ATMs required

Sir, — Several senior citizens and pensioners who are living in Vidyamanyanagara have accounts in the State Bank of Mysore but it is difficult for them to travel to the city. Therefore, it will be convenient for the residents of Vidyamanyanagara if an ATM is installed there opposite the Sri Venkataramana Swamy temple on the main road. If this facility is provided by the State Bank of Mysore before opening a branch it will go a long way particularly in helping senior citizens.
