Method adopted by civic body to hike property tax criticised

Sharp increase in the rate of taxation draws flak

People allege old rates of taxation not issued


ADILABAD: The method adopted by Adilabad Municipality to enhance property tax for non residential buildings came for severe criticism from people from various walks of life at a seminar organised by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and local chamber of commerce on Sunday. Discussions centred around not only sharp increase in the rate of taxation but also the confusion enveloping it. TDP’s district publicity secretary B. Goverdhan Reddy and M. Ramana Reddy pointed out certain discrepancies in the notification issued by Adilabad Municipality recently seeking opinions from general public on the hike in the rate of taxation.

They said unless individual tax payers were issued notices giving out the increase in the rate, no one will be in a position to file objections by September 13. Besides, old rates of taxation in different localities were not given because of which people will not be able to arrive at exact rate of hike in the tax, he added
