Centre to consider funding Rs. 1550-cr. Bhubharati project: Jairam Ramesh

Special Correspondent

Minister lauds State initiative in comprehensive land information system

Pilot project implemented in Nizamabad district

Set-up of land management authority favoured

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said the Centre would consider positively, the State Government’s proposal seeking funds for the Rs. 1,550-crore ‘Bhubharati’ (Comprehensive Land Information System Project) all over the State in the next five years.

“The Centre has received proposals from the Andhra Pradesh Government four days ago seeking funds to take up Bhubharati project in five more districts and gradually cover all the other remaining districts,” Mr. Ramesh said addressing a press conference here on Sunday.

Patting the Andhra Pradesh Government for successful implementation of the project on pilot basis in Nizamabad district two years ago, Mr. Ramesh said the entire extent of land would be surveyed by March 2008. After that Karimnagar, Srikakulam, Nellore, Anantapur and Kadapa districts would be covered, he added. The project would facilitate the Government to issue conclusive titles, which has not been done so far in the country. However, the Government has to first pass a legislation to bring effect to its aim of issuing conclusive titles. He said a land management authority was needed to implement outcome of the survey.

Organic farming

Mr. Ramesh said that the State Government had embarked on a project to bring 25 lakh acres in dry land areas in the State under organic farming. Non-pesticide management techniques were being followed in cultivation of mangoes, chillies and paddy in Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The Union Minister said two vapour heat treatment plants would be set up in Nuzvid and Tirupati for treating mangoes to be exported to Japan.
