‘Provide gunmen for only those in hit-list’

Correspondent

Kakinada: “Withdraw gunmen, that has become a status symbol to all and retain them for only those in the Maoists’ hit-list. Abolish the guards system for VIPs –the legacy of the British,” said K.S.R. Murthy, Pradesh Congress official spokesman who is also a former MP at a press conference here on Sunday.

He said that our police personnel were not professionals and the entire police set-up needed to be revamped to cope up with the security challenges of the present day.

Mr. Murthy, who is a retired IAS officer having served both in the State and Centre for over three-and-half decades, said that 30 per cent of the IAS and IPS officers in the State were not having work for more than one hour daily. He wanted the Government to provide them work utilising their services in the key areas required, so that the administration will be effective.
