Chennai: The Madras University Faculty Club celebrated Teachers Day with a rally for awareness on the importance of quality education.
Madras University Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran flagged off the rally at Gandhi statue on the Marina beach. About 1,000 students, faculty members and staff participated in the rally that ended at the Madras University campus.
Later in the day, a ceremony was held to honour retired professors. Former Vice-Chancellor S. Ignacimuthu and professor B.B. Sundaresan felicitated the professors. A debate, led by Solomon Pappaiya, and a class music concert by the Indian Music Department were also held.
The celebrations closed with a ‘therukoothu’ (folk art) performance by Purasai Sambantham and team.
