NEW DELHI: The 13th edition of the Delhi Book Fair ended at the Pragati Maidan here on Sunday. Around 225 leading Indian publishers participated in the fair organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation and the Federation of Indian Publishers. According to the organisers, the event received a good response, attracting over nine lakh visitors during the nine days. A major attraction of the fair was the participation of 22 foreign nationals individually. They were nine individual participants from China and seven from Vietnam apart from participation from Pakistan, Iran, Germany and United Arab Emirates. Apart from exhibiting books, the fair also saw book release functions, seminars and a painting competition organised by FIP for children in the age group of one to 14 years. The topics for the competition were “Environment”, “Mother and Child” and “Importance of Books”. An award ceremony was also organised by FIP to felicitate publishers for excellence in book production in 2007. These awards are given annually to promote and enhance the quality of publishing in India. Super cop Kiran Bedi, who was the chief guest at the function, said: “The FIP should hold reading and writing competition at book fairs and start promoting audio and e-books.” Awards were also presented to the best stalls in four categories on the final day.
