Gandhiji described as great PR expert

Newspaper termed as a part of ideal PR

Manipal chapter of PRCI inaugurated on Saturday

PR has grown vastly over the last 60 years

Manipal: M.V. Kamath, chairman of Prasar Bharati said here on Saturday that public relations, as a profession meant not just selling a concept or an idea but a way to educate, enlighten and empower masses. He was delivering the keynote address at the inaugural function of the Manipal chapter of Public Relations Council of India (PRCI). Mr. Kamath said public relations (PR) had grown into a mighty tree, with its branches spread in different directions, during the last 60 years. It was a part of the larger theme of communication between individuals and institutions and the public.. A newspaper is a part of the ideal system of public relations. Even a bill board falls into that category. But these are static tools of communication. When a politician or a film star or a sports person gives an interview, he subtly communicates with his friends and foes.

Journalists, by implication, were PR persons, Mr. Kamath said. Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi were great PR experts. The former handled the conference of world religions in Chicago and the latter handled the Dandi march, well.
