Raw deal to coastal Andhra

Ever since 1947, the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh situated at the tail end of the rivers has been grossly neglected by the leaders of the upper regions – Telangana and Rayalaseema. Barring a few, all the Chief Ministers belong to these places irrespective of their lack of knowledge of Telugu or English. The coastal leaders remain neglected.

The Godavari and Pakasam barrages were executed only after the ‘Cotton’ anicuts were broken due to age. While one person from uplands takes pride in having made Hyderabad a hi-tech city, another is content he installed major industries whether the areas were suitable for them or not.

In a nutshell, the State has become tycoon-raj, militating against the great hopes of betterment, cherished by the gullible voters, particularly from coastal Andhra. Let coastal inhabitants strive for a separate State for their area.

Act on mosquito menace

When dengue and malaria are spreading taking their toll of human lives, Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation should draw up plans for improving sanitation and at least control the rampant mosquito menace which is the sole cause for diseases.

It appears that GVMC works on jerks with an outbreak of diseases.

I cite my example. For the last five years,

I have been in correspondence with the corporation and made many personal visits, requesting lining of bottom and sides of a natural drain (80 per cent illegally occupied) running parallel to NH 5 in Pithapuram Colony.

It is understood that estimates were approved but the work order is not being issued. Owing to lack of lining, this drain has become a major breeding ground for mosquitoes.

A herd of people live in huts alongside the drain which is used by the inhabitants for all purposes.
