NEW DELHI: Ten-time Grand Slam champion Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Rohan Bopanna have been seeded No.1 in doubles in the China Open tennis tournament, to be held at Beijing.
The Indian pair, which had competed together in the Davis Cup tie against Holland apart from the Afro-Asian Games a few years ago, will play Chris Haggard of South Africa and Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in the first round.
Meanwhile, Bopanna has won two rounds of the singles qualifying event.
The second-seeded Bopanna beat Sonchat Ratiwatana of Thailand 6-4, 6-3 in the second round to set up a final-round clash against the sixth-seeded Phillip King of the U.S.
Bopanna had beaten David Martin of the US 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 in the first qualifying round
