Incentives to encourage more people to take up archaka’s profession Golden days ahead for Srikurmam temple
Srikakulam: The Regional Joint Commissioner of Endowments, S.Kondala Rao has said with a view to attracting more people to take up the profession of archakas by undergoing the required training, a number of incentives which included deposit of Rs. 1 lakh in the name of the students at the time of admission to be paid back to him with interest after five years of training, were being offered. Results announced
The amount would be drawn from the Archakas Welfare Fund. After completion of the training, suitable job would also be offered, Mr. Kondala Rao added. There was need to preserve and revive Vedic culture. As part of it, the Agama paathasala at Arasavilli, which was closed in 1996, was being revived. There was severe dearth of trained Archakas in the State, he said. Because now people were keen to go for other jobs. Speaking to The Hindu here on Monday, Mr.Kondala Rao said that there were about 25 Agama Paathasalaas under the control of Endowments Department in the State. Training in ‘Agama pravesa, pravara and vara’ examinations would be imparted at these paathasalas, he said. Mr.Kondala Rao, who had released the results of Archaka Agama examinations held in July, said that a pass in the ‘Agama pravesa’ examination would make the candidate eligible to take up the job of Archaka. In the Archaka agama examinations conducted in July 220 of the 313 candidates were successful. Mr.Rao formally released the results today. Mr.Kondala Rao, who had earlier inspected the temples at Asrasavilli and Srikurmam said that plans were finalised for provision of more facilities to devotees at the temple premises. As part of it Rs.25 lakh each was proposed to be spent at Arasavilli and Srikurmam temples. According to Mr.Rao golden days were ahead for the ancient temple at Srikurmam. As part of development, marble flooring, granite walls and brass queue lines were proposed to be provided. Staff had also been directed to develop greenery around temple premises. Instructions had also been issued to renovate raja Gopuram. The Assistant Commissioner, Krishnaji Rao, who was present said that provision of dressing rooms and toilets for women, CC road at Koneru and landscaping formed part of the development plan at Arasavilli.
