“Do not shift Siddha hospital”

Up in arms: Congress cadres staging a road roko at Monday Market in Kanyakumari district on Monday.

NAGERCOIL: Congress functionaries, led by the party MLAs, Jayapaul and John Jacob, blocked traffic at Monday Market on Monday in protest against a move to shift the Government Siddha Hospital.

After the Government decided to move the siddha hospital from Monday Market to Palliyaadi, the Congress had announced that the party cadres would block traffic on September 10 in protest against the proposal.

As the protestors started gathering in front of the bus stand at Monday Market, the protest venue, a team of officials held talks with them, but in vain since the Congress functionaries were keen on getting assurance from the district administration.

As the officials were not prepared to give any promise, the protestors squatted on the road, leaving the passengers in the lurch. When they were arrested, a negotiating team met the protestors again with the promise that the siddha hospital would not be transferred to Palliyaadi for now that dissuaded the Congress cadres from continuing the protest.
